Georgianna Baker is an artist based in the Bay Area, Ca. Raised in beautiful Berkshire County, the majority of her art is inspired by nature and all of its splendor.
I’m inspired to create by the concepts of transformative energies and connection. It’s an intuitive process to guide this amalgam of minerals into a new life. The clay interacts and reacts, so in a way we’re collaborating together. Creating these forms can be a metaphor for the cycles of life. There’s a continuity of evolution in the clay, that’s dependent on external forces. If I’m too hasty, the whole structure collapses. The alchemy ensues when the forms magnetize and move together, like two tango dancers feeding off each others rhythm. The clay becomes a vehicle for connection to the visceral; defying all explanation. The contours are boundless and present. Creating pottery feels like such an authentic form of expression. There’s an endless discovery of self, sprinkled with surprise and sheer joy. I’m influenced by Japanese style contouring and natural earth tones. I enjoy carvings and imprinting patterns to create a weathered, rustic appearance.
